Year 4.5

Year 4.5 was preparation for a sermon and a trip. On Monday I mindlessly dashed off to a Chinese chiropractor appointment on the wrong  day but at least I had more time with Frank and Peter instead on the island. After lunch we went for a slow walk and had coffee before we parted. Paul L was in hk but he was sick, so I did not have to show him around.

Day two and my last western chiropractor appointment was canceled because of the turnover meeting. It did not go well, so I’m obliged to take the small window of opportunity to turn things around and turn the tide at the next big meeting. The bar is impossible to scale on the both sides.

On Wednesday buddy and I had a short dinner with our two division associates, followed by leaders meeting that ended close to midnight. Sleeping was difficult but I managed to sleep before 1am to avoid getting drowsy next day.

Day four was a change from the usual lunch. A former USA church member Lawrence was in town for missions, teaching Sunday school to immigrant children. He also brought goodies that I cannot finish on my own.

On Friday some called me for lunch to make me change my mind but it did not work. I did not want to stay too long, so I opted for a hair cut to prepare for next day. Later a 50 something seminary grad asked me for advice for graduation from his liberal seminary lately. I did the best I could and gave him my latest book. At night I had dinner with Faith and attended the first part of fellowship, where S requested me to hurry others on correcting minutes.

Day six is the monthly anniversary of Doris’ loss. It’s been three years and one month since. I got her flowers yesterday. I had lunch with buddy before he attended C seminary graduation.

Sunday was packed. Besides teaching SS I preached on Acts 11, a delightful text on persecution. After worship I dashed off to catch an earlier bus to the airport. The transit was not as bad as I thought and landed 1130pm. My contact was a former student, to my surprise. Alls well in NW and looking forward to the week of teaching ahead.

Year 4.4

Year 4.4 is as dramatic as it comes in Hong Kong. Monday was a rest day but I visited the wrong chiropractor appointment on my calendar. It was not all wasted because I got Vietnamese food for lunch. I also had high tea at the pier with two. At least I got some ready after yesterday’s match.

Day two was a chiropractor appointment, this time the western type. Hopefully I can get these prepaid ten sessions done ASAP. At night there was a grand prayer for hk organized by the denomination at church. I introduced myself to kfefc pastor Lam, whom I met before.

On Wednesday leaders meeting we had to navigate a tricky turnover situation and I was one of three asked to look into it. At lunch I advocated for the dabu duo.

Day four was one of those days I had three health appointments, lunch chiropractor followed by western appointment at 4pm that I hearly missed and foot massage after work. At noon I was notified that I was officially a BI director. At night I finally finished rewriting my grammar bible corrections that were lost to my usb, twenty days later, not bad!

On Friday we had turnover lunch and the meeting was ok. Jon came and I took him for dinner and to the admiralty bridge for pictures.

Day six was another boring western chiropractor appointment. A coworker requested me to take over for him for two bible study sessions due his heavy funeral tasks. At night we left earlier for dinner.

Sunday was a good SS class almost spoiled by a late bus. After a short rest it was off to march again, this time it took four hours, double the last time. At night I was rewarded with a Father’s Day dinner.

Year 4.3

Year 4.3 was a contentious week in Hong Kong. Monday was spent tutoring the best I can. Otherwise I reworked on my lost grammar bible correction file and had a gruelling foot massage.

On day two I made an appointment to sign some papers but forgot. My memory is a bad comrade. We had our coworkers small group. A group member shared he had to conduct a funeral monthly for the last six months, which made me feel very bad for him.

On Wednesday I attended leaders prayer meeting and lunch, where I gave my few cents worth opinion on turnover. At language meeting an old wound emerged after months of stability. An old friend Gilbert asked if I were willing to teach a border class, but I got lots at stake, so I delayed my answer.

On day four I visited Chinese chiropractor for minimum relief but every bit helps. I met with coworkers for Acts 11 sermon the afternoon and later I talked with K on his upcoming sermon. At night I had dinner with Mok sisters and China son for the holiday tomorrow. We ordered Doris’ favorite winter melon soup.

Friday was a holiday, so we worked very hard on a leadership assignment. Progress is not easy but at least I napped twice. I’m not sure how we will manage to meet the deadlines.

Day six began with English core, then I had to go to chiropractor before returning to attend 2pm wedding. I had a drink with buddy and then attended briefly a family gathering.

Sunday was third SS class which was usually enjoyable.
After a brief breakfast and a return to the office it was off to worship. After a short rest I joined marchers to protest the bill. We went to Bon for dinner and returned home for work but things are crawling.

Year 4.2

Year 4.2 was a more relaxing week even though I had my share of work. On Monday I started off with a long visit to the bank to change my password. Even the last front office employee had left, the one serving me said. Later I had lunch with a friend who is returning to Singapore and offered to take a gift to my mother. In the evening I had the first of two foot massages of the week.

On day two morning I attended the extradition law talk at church but to give the speaker, who knows Doris, four of her old books published after her loss. Surprisingly after my USA trip, I found myself energized and having lots of time for sermon preparation.

On Wednesday I woke up crying to a person asking me in my dream, “How’s your life?” Last week’s emotions from her third year of loss anniversary caught up to me after the trip but I was glad I felt the pain to be fully Alice. I was so engrossed in work that I forgot to attend language prayer meeting.

On day four morning I went to my new chiropractor, who was amazed that I could stand twice for an hour for my USA trip. He said it was tough on a normal person, let alone with my bad back. In the evening I had my second foot massage.

Friday was a pleasant day at the office. I don’t feel rushed after my holiday. It was a good studying day with two. We made up for lost study time from USA travel after dinner. It was hard sitting still with the recent barrage of activity.

Day six was a throughly enjoyable avocado plus German sausage breakfast. I had to go chiropractor treatment again and returned to church for lunch.
At night we had pth fellowship and ate our favorite lunch dinner after a few weeks away.

Sunday was a full day with 845am Sunday school. I could hardly keep up during worship. Laksa dinner at Tsing yi was surprisingly good for a change at a restaurant I have not tried before. I was there because a missionary called me out of the blue, so I could only offer to meet at the nearest mall.
